Tilda Swinton Teaches Doctor Strange the Mystical Asian Stuff

I think he says this better than I could, so I won’t say much.

The thing is I do have more of a problem with this version of the Ancient One rather than with a white Iron Fist. Personally, I don’t care very much about Iron Fist, although I do agree with the whole “Mighty Whitey” criticism. That’s just the character, and we all have to live with it. But the same holds true for the Ancient One. I’m all for revising the AO. I’m on-board with the idea of making the AO a woman, but where we do have a role that is set as an Asian, I would like to see one there. The idea that there aren’t any qualified one is outright BS, so let’s not hear about that.

Marvel just dropped the first teaser trailer for Doctor Strange, starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Stephen Strange, who journeys to mystical Asia to learn Mystical Asian Stuff. The trailer also gives us our first glimpse of Tilda Swinton as the Sorcerer Supreme’s mystical mentor, The Ancient One.

Racebent! In typical Hollywood fashion. Many of us were wondering how the movie would handle whitest actress Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One, who has been traditionally depicted in the comic books as an old-ass mystical Asian man. Now we have our answer: she is bald.

for this point I think you are correct. but how would you get more chinese and japanese actors to work in Hollywood?

Thank you, and that’s a really good question. As a poet, I know that poetry has been slow, but it’s been steady. It lags, but Hollywood is way behind. I think some of the problem is also getting vehicles for Asian American actors greenlit.

but on the reverse side of the coin if you type in Unrested in youtube he explains the actors are paid crap and its like whats the point and there not good actors. Its frustrating since there are talented chinese and korean actors but the problem is the anime looks white or half and half
