Rewatching “The Last Samurai”

I’m reminded, as I rewatch “The Last Samurai,” of a story Stroud-sensei told us when the movie came out.  He saw it with his son, and his son asked something along the lines of if scene where Tom Cruise fights off four guys on a Tokyo street at night possible.  Stroud-sensei said that he’d been practicing for 30+ years, and it took him a long time to get used to randori, what we call the exercise where we have multiple attackers.  Tom Cruise’s character was in the mountains for six months, so sure, why not?  And then he laughed that quiet laugh he made when he was amused.  I’m really going to miss Sensei.
